Product Information
2'-(2H-Tetrazol-5-yl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carboxylic acid (TTZ) is a chemical compound that can be used as an analytical method to detect caffeine, carbamazepine, and valsartan in pharmaceutical preparations. TTZ is also used for the detection of drug metabolites in wastewater treatment. This compound has a neutral pH and can be activated by adding dry sodium carbonate or calcium chloride. The TTZ reaction is based on the formation of acid from the protonation of 2'-(2H-tetrazol-5-yl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carboxylic acid by an acidic solution in order to form a red dye that can be read spectrophotometrically at 540 nm.
