4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-3,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde is an organic solvent that is used in organic synthesis as an oxidant. It is a divalent and oxidizing agent which reacts with copper to form copper(II) 4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-3,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde. This reaction takes place under alkaline conditions and can be used for the synthesis of isatin from apabetalone. The posttreatment of this product with sulfate or chloral yields a medicine.
