Description:
Enfuvirtide is a peptide that is used to treat HIV infection. It is a recombinant form of the HIV-1 envelope protein and binds to the CD4 receptor on T cells, blocking HIV from entering the cell. Enfuvirtide has been shown to be safe and effective in clinical trials in both adults and children. Enfuvirtide is active against many strains of HIV, including those resistant to other classes of antiviral drugs. The safety profile for enfuvirtide has been characterized in more than 3,000 patients during clinical trials as well as in over 2,000 patients outside of clinical trials. In addition, it does not interfere with antiretroviral therapy (ART) which suppresses viral replication.
