Somatostatin is a peptide hormone that is widely expressed throughout the body; in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, hypothalamus, pancreas and the central nervous system. It has been found to inhibit pituitary growth hormone release as well as endocrine, pancreatic and GI secretions. In the central nervous system somatostatin plays a role in neurotransmission modification and it has also demonstrated to be effective against a number of cancers such as squamous carcinoma. This product contains disulfide bonds between Cys3-Cys14.
