Sodium 2-chloroethanesulfonate monohydrate is a white crystalline compound with a melting point of 149 °C. It is soluble in water, and insoluble in ether. Sodium 2-chloroethanesulfonate monohydrate reacts with epoxy to form polyurethane. It is often used as a reagent for the synthesis of polyurethane, and can be recycled after use. When heated with chloropropane, it forms chloroacetic acid and polyurethane. The reaction time depends on the concentration of sodium 2-chloroethanesulfonate monohydrate used. This compound also reacts with starches and other carbohydrates to form thickening agents that are used in wastewater treatment.br>br>
