3,5-Dibromo-4-iodo-pyridine is a halogenated organic compound that is used in the synthesis of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol. It reacts with sodium azide to form 3,5-dibromo-4-nitrosoazobenzene and diazotization with potassium nitrite to form 3,5-dibromo-2-(nitrosomethyl)pyridine. This product can be synthesized by the reaction of pyridine and bromine at elevated temperature. The product is purified by recrystallization or distillation.
