ALUMINIUM FLUORIDE is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula AlF3. The solid is a white, crystalline material that has a low solubility in water and is insoluble in organic solvents. It can be prepared by heating the elements together to form aluminium oxide and hydrogen fluoride, which then reacts to form aluminium fluoride (AlF3). This compound can be dehydrated to produce aluminium trihydroxide, Al(OH)3. ALUMINIUM FLUORIDE (3-hydrate) AR is used as an extractant for fluorides and other ions from water. It also has uses in microscopy and as a coagulant for water treatment.
