Ethyl trans-3-benzoylacrylate (ETBA) is an organic solvent that is used in the synthesis of a variety of chemical compounds. The ETBA can be synthesized by reacting cinnamic acid derivatives with alkoxycarbonyl groups, followed by elimination reactions and alkylation. The chiral nature of this compound can be achieved through the use of a chiral catalyst, such as triphosgene. This product may be toxic to cells, as it has been shown to induce cell death in human erythrocytes.
