Description:

3,5-Di-tert-butyltoluene is an analog of toluene that has been used as an analytical reagent in multinuclear analysis. The compound has been shown to have antioxidative properties, which can protect cells from oxidative damage. This chemical has also been shown to have apoptotic effects on Caco-2 cells and plastids and mitochondrial effects on human erythrocytes. 3,5-Di-tert-butyltoluene also binds to nuclear DNA and cellular organelles, such as the mitochondria and plastids. The analog is a reactive molecule that forms adducts with nucleophilic sites such as thiols or amino groups in proteins or nucleic acids.
