Product Information
2-dimethylamino-3-methylbutanoic acid, also known as DMMB, is an organic compound that is a carboxylate. The molecule has two tautomers, the enol and keto forms. This compound has a sequence of amino acids that lead to the formation of an acidic group with a pKa of 4.5, which can be deprotonated in water to form the carboxylate ion. DMMB can exist in different configurations due to rotation about its central carbon atom, which makes it a chiral molecule. It can also exist as a solvated or non-solvated species depending on its solvent molecules. As an amino acid sequence, DMMB is found in many organisms such as cyanobacteria and bacteria. In solution it may form dimethylammonium ions or cyanide ions due to tautomerization reactions.
