2-(4-Bromophenyl)ethyl]dimethylamine (BPDMAA) is a reagent for the synthesis of carboxylic acids. It is used to reduce aldehydes and ketones, including alpha-keto acid, beta-keto acid, and esters. BPDMAA can also be used to label proteins with N-terminal cysteine residues by using carbodiimide chemistry. The product has been shown to inhibit lipid peroxidation by reacting with the aldehydic intermediate of the reaction sequence. BPDMAA has an excellent stability in air and moisture.
