Nickel sulfate hexahydrate is the most common form of nickel sulfate. It is a water-soluble inorganic salt that is found naturally but can also be prepared by reacting nickel metal with sulfuric acid. Nickel sulfate hexahydrate has been shown to have a number of enzyme activities, including the ability to catalyze reactions involving hydrogen bonding interactions and metal hydroxides. It has also been used as an additive in electroplating solutions and for plating metals such as copper, gold, and silver.
