-3(Prop-2-Yn-1-Ylsulfinyl)Prop-1-Yne is a selective and potent inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAO). It has been shown to inhibit MAO-A and MAO-B with high selectivity. The chemical structure of this drug is similar to that of propargylamine, which is a competitive inhibitor of MAO. -3(Prop-2-Yn-1-Ylsulfinyl)Prop-1-Yne is stable in nature, being resistant to hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. This drug has been commerciallyized for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
