Diironnonacarbonyl is a metal carbonyl with the formula Fe(CO)2. It was first synthesized by reacting iron pentacarbonyl with hydrochloric acid in methanol. This compound has been shown to react as a nucleophile and undergo cycloaddition reactions. Diironnonacarbonyl can be used as a precursor for carbon nanotubes and other materials that are useful for catalytic conversion of CO2 into fuels, such as alcohols, ethers, and hydrocarbons.
