Cerium(III) oxalate hydrate is a compound of cerium and calcium carbonate. It has been shown to form particles with different morphologies, including hexagonal plates, spherical aggregates, and nanocubes. Cerium(III) oxalate hydrate has been used for the preparation of catalysts for the oxidation of aliphatic hydrocarbons in hexane. This compound can also be used to produce selenium compounds by laser ablation.
This compound is also able to absorb light at wavelengths between 550 nm and 900 nm, which may be useful in structural studies of carboxylates. The crystalline structure of this compound has been studied using X-ray diffraction methods.
