Product Information
5-Phenyluracil is a DNA binding protein that binds to the uridine phosphorylase enzyme. It is an analog of uracil with a 5-phenyl group replacing the NH2 group in the uracil ring. The specific interaction between 5-phenyluracil and the uridine phosphorylase enzyme has been shown to be due to its ability to bind dna duplexes, which are damaged or unbound by other dna binding proteins. 5-Phenyluracil has also been shown to inhibit herpes simplex virus and virus by inhibiting viral DNA synthesis.
