2-(Quinolin-3-yl)hydrazine hydrochloride is a quinoline derivative that has been shown to inhibit the oxidation of protein molecules in human liver. It also inhibits the mitochondrial respiratory chain, which leads to a decrease in ATP production. 2-(Quinolin-3-yl)hydrazine hydrochloride increases the conductance of the inner membrane of mitochondria and causes an increase in hydrogen peroxide production, which are both steps in oxidative phosphorylation. This molecule also blocks the synthesis of flavoproteins and sulfate. 2-(Quinolin-3-yl)hydrazine hydrochloride is soluble in water and can be solubilized with salts such as sodium chloride or potassium phosphate. The drug binds to flavins and amino acids, forming prosthetic groups that are essential for electron transfer reactions during oxidative phosphorylation.
