4,6-Dimethoxy-5-nitropyrimidine is a synthetic chemical that has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of proteins by an unknown mechanism. It is soluble in butanol and insoluble in n-butyl alcohol. The reaction products are quinolinium and piperidine. 4,6-Dimethoxy-5-nitropyrimidine has been synthesized from nitrobenzene and piperidine. This chemical was detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. 4,6-Dimethoxy-5-nitropyrimidine is resistant to most common antibiotics such as penicillin, ampicillin, erythromycin, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, and kanamycin.
