Product Information

Name:
2,2-Dimethyloctane
Synonyms:
  • Octane, 2,2-Dimethyl-
  • 2,2-Dimethyl octane
Description:

2,2-Dimethyloctane (DMO) is a hydrocarbon that is found in many different types of organic matter and can be used as an alternative fuel. DMO has been shown to have a density of 0.6 g/cm3 and a viscosity of 3.5 cP at 25 °C. It can also be used in simulations to study the effects on micropore stability, composting, and orientations with respect to adsorption and desorption properties. 2,2-Dimethyloctane has also been shown to break down into volatile compounds such as aldehydes (e.g., formaldehyde) and ester compounds (e.g., ethyl acetate). This hydrocarbon has been observed in human urine samples using solid phase microextraction techniques with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry detection methods.
