- Sodium 4-(Acetylamino)Benzenesulfinate
Sodium 4-acetamidobenzenesulfinate dihydrate (SABS) is a primary amine that has antibacterial activity against staphylococcus. It inhibits bacterial growth by alkylating the sulfhydryl groups of enzymes, thereby preventing DNA replication and synthesis. This drug also has antimicrobial properties and can be used to treat infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). SABS is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
