Disodium phthalate is an inorganic salt that is an effective chelating agent. Disodium phthalate is a salt of two molecules of disodium and one molecule of phthalic acid. It has been shown to reduce the amount of calcium, magnesium, and iron ions present in water by adsorbing them onto its surface. Disodium phthalate is also used to remove the odor from water or for the prevention of corrosion in pipes and boilers. The chemical stability of this compound makes it a useful additive for polycarboxylic acid plastics such as polyester resins. Disodium phthalate can be used as an effective dose to prevent calcium stearate from forming lumps in the production process. Disodium phthalate has been shown to have immune-rejection effects, which may be due to its ability to cause allergic reactions or immune reactions by interfering with antigen presentation.
