1-(4-Hydroxy-2,2-dimethylchroman-6-yl)ethanone is a methyl ester of 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid and is the most active of the chromanones for inhibiting keratinocyte proliferation. It also inhibits the oxidation of lipids by hydrogen peroxide in mouse fibroblasts. 1-(4-Hydroxy-2,2-dimethylchroman-6-yl)ethanone has cytoprotective effects against oxidative stress that are mediated by its ability to inhibit the activity of dehydrogenase enzymes. This compound has been found to be present in flowers from the Compositae family.
