Product Information
4-Chloro-5-nitroquinoline (4CNQ) is a thermochromic compound that undergoes isomerization to 4-chloro-5-nitrosoquinoline (4CNQO) when heated. The 4CNQO can be detected by x-ray diffraction and has a different diffraction pattern from 4CNQ. The solutions of 4CNQ in chloroform and nitromethane, as well as the isomerization reaction mixture, are studied by x-ray diffraction, which shows that the substances have different crystalline structures. Spectroscopic studies show that the two substances have different absorption spectra due to their different molecular structures.
