2-(4-Bromophenyl)thiophene is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to have a synergistic effect with clarithromycin in a molecular modeling study. It has been observed that 2-(4-bromophenyl)thiophene enhances the fluorescence of ligands and molecules on films, suggesting that it may be used in future film preparation. This compound also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the bacterial ribosome, preventing protein synthesis and causing cell death. 2-(4-Bromophenyl)thiophene may also be used as a fluorescent probe for studying monomers and polymers, or in transistors or other devices.
