Description:

Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) and CDK5 are enzymes that regulate the progression of cells from one stage to the next. The inhibitors of these enzymes have been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of solid tumours. They also have antimicrobial activity, which may be due to their ability to inhibit DNA replication and cell division. These inhibitors bind to the carbonyl group of thiophosphate esters in a genotoxic manner and can induce DNA damage and cytotoxicity in vitro. These compounds inhibit cell growth by binding directly to cyclin-dependent kinase 1 or CDK5, which prevents phosphorylation on serine residues within the catalytic domain, preventing activation of these enzymes and halting cell cycle progression.
