It is a monomer with two methyl groups and two bromine atoms at the 8th and 9th positions. 2,8-Dibromodibenzothiophene 5,5-dioxide has been shown to be fluorescent. X-ray crystal structures of 2,8-Dibromodibenzothiophene 5,5-dioxide have been found to be cross-coupled with other molecules such as 1,4-phenylene diamine. The cross coupling reaction has been shown to have efficiencies up to 100%.
