4-(Diphenylphosphino)styrene is an organic solvent that can be used as a cross-linking agent in the polymerization of styrene. 4-(Diphenylphosphino)styrene is soluble in most common solvents, and is able to form hydrophobic microcapsules by interacting with hydrochloric acid. It has been shown to be functionalized with organometallic compounds and magnetic nanoparticles, which have been used for intramolecular crosslinking or suzuki coupling reactions. 4-(Diphenylphosphino)styrene has also been shown to copolymerize with vinyl groups, forming a hydrophobic copolymer.
