1,4-Dibromo-2,5-diethylbenzene (DBDE) is a crystalline compound that belongs to the group of mesomorphic compounds. It has a melting point of 45.8°C and a boiling point of 174°C. DBDE is soluble in ether and chloroform but not water. It is also insoluble in acetone, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride. DBDE has been shown to form oligomers with an average molecular weight of about 1000 Da at temperatures below its mesomorphic transition temperature.
