2-(2-Phenylhydrazono)malonic acid is a senolytic agent that selectively induces apoptosis in senescent cells. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of diploid cells, which are characterized by high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial dysfunction. 2-(2-Phenylhydrazono)malonic acid has been shown to inhibit the release of catalase and deoxyribose, which are two important antioxidants in the body. This agent also activates the peroxidase activity of superoxide dismutase and suppresses the activities of glutathione reductase and glutathione peroxidase. 2-(2-Phenylhydrazono)malonic acid may have significant effects on cellular senescence, as well as other diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes.
