2-Amino-5-methoxyphenol is a monomer that has biological properties. It is a nucleophile and can react with copper to form a complex. 2-Amino-5-methoxyphenol also can bind to the antibody of the monoclonal type. This property makes it an ideal candidate for use in cancer treatments. 2-Amino-5-methoxyphenol has been shown to inhibit cellular transformation in both animal and human tissue cells, as well as induce apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. It also inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells by inducing G1 arrest, which prevents replication of DNA and cell division.
