Product Information

Name:
1-Dodecyloxy-4-nitrobenzene
Synonyms:
  • 4-n-Dodecyloxynitrobenzene
  • p-Nitrophenyl Dodecyl Ether
  • 1-(Dodecyloxy)-4-Nitrobenzene
Description:

1-Dodecyloxy-4-nitrobenzene (1DN) is a nitrate that is used in the production of ion exchange resins. It is made by reacting benzene with nitric acid under high temperature and pressure. 1DN has been shown to be an ion selective membrane that can be used to separate biological molecules. The exchange process occurs when hydrogen ions from the solvent are attracted to the cationic sites of the resin, causing protonated 1DN molecules to dissociate and release protons on the anion side. This process results in a net movement of protons from one side of the membrane to the other, which can be measured as a pH change or current flow.
