Product Information
Praziquantel is a drug that is used to treat schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease caused by schistosoma. Praziquantel inhibits the growth of schistosoma parasites in the host's body by damaging their cell membranes. This drug reduces the number of eggs released from female worms and decreases the number of male and female worms that are able to reproduce. Praziquantel also has an effect on host cells, inhibiting the activity of histone deacetylase, which is an enzyme that regulates gene expression. Praziquantel can be administered orally or intravenously, but there are no significant differences between these two routes of administration for efficacy. The optimal dose for praziquantel treatment is 10 mg/kg body weight with a maximum daily dose of 120 mg/kg body weight.
The crystallographic structure of praziquantel was determined using X-ray diffraction data collected at 100 K and 200 K.
