2-(Diphenylphosphino)aniline is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with sodium carbonate to form an amido-sodium carbonate complex. This reaction has been used as a model system for the study of nucleophilic attack in biological systems. In addition, 2-(diphenylphosphino)aniline binds to palladium complexes and is used as a catalyst in the oxidation of nitrite to nitric oxide. The hydroxyl group on 2-(diphenylphosphino)aniline can be protonated in acidic environments, which leads to high cytotoxicity and optical properties that are sensitive to pH changes. 2-(Diphenylphosphino)aniline is also used for the synthesis of optical brighteners for laundry detergents. Crystals of this compound have been studied by crystallography.
