2-Furfurylthio-3-methylpyrazine is an inhibitor of corrosion. It is a potent inhibitor of the dissolution of steel in sulfuric acid. 2-Furfurylthio-3-methylpyrazine has been shown to be an excellent corrosion inhibitor in acidic environments. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing pH and decreasing temperature in the range of 0 - 50 °C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to study the nature and morphology of monolayers formed on the surface. The adsorption isotherms were determined by potentiodynamic polarization measurements and simulations, revealing that 2-furfurylthio-3-methylpyrazine adsorbs strongly at low concentrations and weakly at high concentrations.
