Octadecyl rhodamine B chloride (ODB) is a fluorescent dye that is used to visualize bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as to detect and quantify human serum antibodies. ODB can also be used to isolate specific bacterial species from complex samples, such as human feces, by lysing cells. This compound has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against many types of bacteria and has been proposed for use as an oral or topical antiseptic agent.
