Product Information
2-(tert-Butylthio)benzaldehyde is an aldehyde that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of zileuton, an anti-inflammatory drug. 2-(tert-Butylthio)benzaldehyde can be synthesized by reacting salicylaldehyde with acetonitrile in the presence of imine. This reaction gives a mixture of two products - 2-(tert-butylthio)benzaldehyde and 3-(methylthio)propanal - which can be separated by crystallography or voltammetry. The structure of 2-(tert-Butylthio)benzaldehyde was determined using x-ray crystallography and it was found to have a mononuclear coordination sphere with metal ions, such as copper(II), zinc(II), and nickel(II). 2-(tert-Butylthio)benzaldehyde has been shown to interact with DNA, protein and polysaccharides
