Pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2-amino-phenyl)-amide is a bioinorganic compound that is the first member of the pyridine-2-carboxamide series. It has been shown to bind to picolinic acid, which is an important intermediate in the metabolism of tryptophan and nicotinic acid. Pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2-amino-phenyl)-amide may also bind to water molecules, which are important for biological processes. This compound has been shown to be an inhibitor of HIV infection in vitro and in vivo. The x-ray crystal structures of this compound have revealed that it forms tetranuclear complexes with two metal ions and two water molecules.
