1-(3-Methoxybenzyl)-2-thiourea (1MT) is a compound that is an antioxidant. It has been shown to be an effective antioxidant in lipids, which are the main constituent of cell membranes and the most abundant group of natural antioxidants. 1MT stabilizes lipids against oxidative damage by inhibiting lipid peroxidation. 1MT also inhibits the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as singlet oxygen, superoxide radical and hydrogen peroxide, by reacting with ROS before they can cause damage to cell membranes.
