1,1,7,7-Tetramethyl-8-hydroxyjulolidine is a naturally occurring molecule found in the dry weight of animal tissue. It has been shown to be a muscarinic receptor agonist with an affinity for the M1 subtype. This drug binds to the M1 receptor and increases the firing rate of acetylcholine neurons by increasing the influx of chloride ions into postsynaptic cells. 1,1,7,7-Tetramethyl-8-hydroxyjulolidine also has semiconducting properties and can be used as a semiconductor material in electronics and solar cells. The molecular structure of 1,1,7,7-tetramethyl-8-hydroxyjulolidine is helical in shape. The electron configuration around the central atom consists of one s orbital and three p orbitals that are perpendicular to each other. These electrons are responsible for emitting red fluorescence when excited by light
