It has been shown to be selective for styrene over other alkenes and steric factors influence the chemoselectivity of the reaction. (R)-2,2'-Bis[bis(3,5-trifluoromethylphenyl)phosphino]-4,4',6,6'-tetramethoxy)-1,1'-biphenyl can be used as a phosphine in high pressure hydroformylation reactions. The basicity of this compound also influences the regioselectivity of the reaction.
