Description:
Doramectin is a macrocyclic lactone that is produced by the soil bacteria Streptomyces avermitilis. Doramectin has been shown to be an effective insecticide against various species of mites, lice, and ticks. It is also used as an anti-inflammatory agent in animals and humans. A doramectin monosaccharide can be reversibly modified with a glycosylating enzyme to form ivermectin, which has been found to have antifungal activity against several species of dermatophytes and yeasts. Ivermectin also irreversibly binds to transporter proteins that are responsible for the uptake of drugs into cells. These interactions inhibit the transport of drugs into cells and lead to their elimination from the body.
