1,3-Di-Boc-2-(2-hydroxyethyl)guanidine is a synthetic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the bacterial membrane and stabilizes the cell wall by inhibiting the uptake of nutrients. 1,3-Di-Boc-2-(2-hydroxyethyl)guanidine has been shown to have a bactericidal effect on Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. 1,3-Di-Boc-2-(2-hydroxyethyl)guanidine also interacts with intracellular targets that are important for bacterial protein synthesis, including the 30S ribosomal subunit and tRNA synthetase.
