1-Piperidin-4-yl-4-(4-isopropylamino-phenyl)-butan-1-ol is a colorless liquid that can be used as a solvent for the preparation of mixtures. It is soluble in ethanol and insoluble in nonpolar solvents such as ether. The compound has been tested for its hydrogen bond capability, which it has shown to have with water, ethanol, and methanol. This compound reacts by a mechanism of nucleophilic substitution, which is the reaction of an electron pair donor with an electron pair acceptor. The reaction occurs when the nucleophile (the electron pair donor) attacks the electrophile (the electron pair acceptor). The reaction takes place at the carbonyl carbon atom, which becomes part of the new bond between the reactants.
