Description:
Paliperidone, also known as 1-[1-(2-methoxyethyl)piperidin-3-yl]-N-methylmethanamine or 1-[1-(2-Methoxyethyl)piperidin-3-yl]-N-methylmethanamine, is a synthetic drug that is used in the treatment of schizophrenia. It has high binding affinity for the serotonin 5HT2 receptor and dopamine D2 receptor. Paliperidone is structurally similar to clocapramine and acts as an antagonist at the 5HT2A receptors. Paliperidone also shows antipsychotic effects by blocking D2 receptors and antagonizing H1 histamine receptors. This drug does not cause extrapyramidal symptoms due to its low affinity for dopaminergic receptors. It is metabolized by the liver into inactive metabolites that are eliminated through urine and bile.
