Product Information
- 4-Chloro-2,3-dimethylpyridine
4-Chloro-2,3-dimethylpyridine is a n-oxide of pyridine. This compound hydrolyzes in water to form 4-chloro-2,3-dimethylbenzoic acid. It has the sulfonyl chloride and chloride forms. The sulfonyl chloride form is a white crystalline solid that hydrolyzes in aqueous alkali to give the chloride form. 4-Chloro-2,3-dimethylpyridine reacts with benzimidazole or thionyl chloride to give 2-(4'-chlorophenyl)-1H-benzimidazole (1) and 2-(4'-chlorophenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothiazol (2), respectively. These two compounds are condensation products of 1,4 dibenzoyl urea and 2 chloroethanol. Condensation of 1 with 2 gives 3
