Description:

1,3,5,7-Tetraphenyladamantane is a molecule that can be used as a sensitizer in solar cells. It can absorb light from the visible spectrum with wavelengths between 400 and 500 nm. This compound has been shown to have high melting point (above 300 °C) and good stability in organic solvents. 1,3,5,7-Tetraphenyladamantane has also been found to be an efficient ligand for metal ions in some metal complexes. The Friedel-Crafts reaction of this compound with phenyl groups produces a variety of products with different substituents. 1,3,5,7-Tetraphenyladamantane crystallizes in single crystals and has been studied by x-ray diffraction methods using functional theory calculations and molecular simulations.
