- Acetyl chloride, 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)-
2-(2-Methoxyethoxy)acetyl chloride is a polycyclic compound that can be used as a histone deacetylase inhibitor. It is a condensation product of two molecules of glyoxal and one molecule of an acetyl chloride. 2-(2-Methoxyethoxy)acetyl chloride has been shown to have broad-spectrum activity against various types of cancer cells, including melanoma, leukemia, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer cells. The compound inhibits the DNA methylation process by binding to the enzyme that catalyzes it. This prevents DNA methyltransferases from adding methyl groups to the cytosine residues in DNA, which results in epigenetic changes. 2-(2-Methoxyethoxy)acetyl chloride also binds to metal ions such as zinc and magnesium, making it more effective at inhibiting histone deacetylase enzymes.
