m-PEG4-CH2COOH is a carboxylate monomer that can be polymerized with a variety of other monomers to form polymers. It is synthesized by the reaction of 4-vinylbenzoic acid and m-PEG4-OH in an organic solvent, such as dichloromethane, at elevated temperatures. The polymerization reaction is performed under an inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen or argon. The product has been shown to be biodegradable and nonhazardous for the environment. This polymer is also stable and does not degrade over time.
