The compound binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor at the cell surface and inhibits the binding of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and other amines. 6,7,8-Trimethoxyquinazolin-4(3H)-one also causes the release of free radicals from mitochondria, which can lead to DNA damage and cell death. This drug has been found to be effective against a variety of different types of cancer cells. In addition, it has shown synergistic effects when used in conjunction with other anticancer drugs such as epirubicin.
