3,6-Dichlorobenzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid (3,6-DCBD) is a reaction product that is used in the synthesis of metal ion and ligand complexes. It is an amphoteric surfactant with a high degree of solubility in water. 3,6-DCBD has bactericidal properties and can be used as a magnetic probe for studying coordination compounds. 3,6-DCBD also functions as a surfactant that stabilizes anions such as oxygen atoms. This compound has been shown to have carboxylic acid properties because it reacts with potassium hydroxide to produce potassium benzoate and carbon dioxide gas.
